The coaches that make up the Finger Lakes West league recently announced their selections for the All-League team, with Honeoye’s John Gawel being named as the league Player of the Year. The All-League first team features three players from Honeoye, two from Naples, a pair from Dundee/Bradford, two from Red Jacket, and one from South Seneca/Romulus.
Gawel batted .583 with 28 hits on the season including four doubles, three triples, and a home run. The senior stole 15 bases and provided 19 RBI. He caught 92 innings for the Bulldogs and threw out nine runners over the course of the season.
The catcher registered a hit in every game this season but one, with his longest hit streak this season being 18 games. He finished the regular season with the second highest batting average in team history.
Gawel also took home the 2024 Class C2 Player of the Year award, becoming one of four Honeoye players to ever win the top honor for a class. Gawel played four seasons at the varsity level.
