The Red Wings (30-26, tied for third in International League East) took an early lead, getting two men on in the first before loading the bases when Juan Yepez reached on Worcester’s first error of the night. Another error opened scoring, as Worcester left fielder Matthew Lugo misplayed a Carter Kieboom shot to left to bring in Alex Call and Travis Blankenhorn for the 2-0 lead.
Worcester tied it with two in the second, but the Red Wings responded with eight unanswered runs between the fourth and seventh, including a three-run shot by second baseman Jackson Cluff in the seventh. Although the Woo Sox put up two in the bottom of the eighth, Rochester scored a final run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch for the final 11-4 score.
Cluff led the Wings with a 2-for-4 night, including a double, his home run, and a sacrifice fly to bring in a total of four RBI. Third baseman Edwin Mejia drove in two, while Juan Yepez had the other RBI for the Wings.
Rochester righty Spenser Watkins earned the win with 5.2 innings of work, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
The Red Wings, now winners of four of their last five, continue their series with Worcester on Wednesday at 6:45 P.M. Right-hander Jackson Rutledge (2-3, 6.21) takes the mound against Worcester’s Grant Gambrell (3-6, 3.93).
