WEBSTER, N.Y- For the first time in program history, Bloomfield will be one of the final four teams standing in the state. A 2-0 win over Westfield (VI) in the Far West Regional on Friday night advances the Bombers (19-2) to the 2024 NYS Class C semifinals.
“I can’t tell you how good it feels,” said Bloomfield head coach Mark Jacobs. “This team I knew had the talent to do it, the question was could we put it together and do it.”
“It’s something that I’m proud as a player to bring back to my hometown,” said pitcher Ashlyn Wright.
Wright delivered 11 strikeouts, walked no batters, and allowed four hits. It’s the junior right-hander’s third shutout in a row.
“I try to not put the ball down the middle,” said Wright. “My defense behind me has gotten better over the years, I trust my catcher behind the plate. I have a great connection with my catcher and everyone else behind me on defense.”

“She’s unbelievable,” said Jacobs. “She was under the weather a bit this week, but man. She’s a bulldog. She just says give me the ball and I’ll take care of it and she does.”
Bloomfield got both of its runs in the first inning. An RBI single by Calla McCombs scored Syd Falsone after she got on via a walk, and McCombs also found her way home during the inning.
“We start every game and I tell them ‘Lets get three quick outs and go up and put a number on them,'” explained Jacobs. “And they did that today.”
McCombs finished with two hits on the night. Add Falsone singled. Wright and Cece Falsone both walked once.
“What a great group of girls I have,” said Jacobs. “They’re hard workers. They do everything the way that they’re supposed to.”
The Bombers advance to play Pine Plains (IX) in the NYS Class C semifinals. The game is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th, at 7:30 p.m in Bellport, New York.
