Bloomfield, Westfield set to battle in Softball Class C Far West Regional

One squad looks to continue a program-best season and reach the NYS semifinal for the first time. Another is looking to avenge regional defeats in each of the past two seasons. Bloomfield and Westfield will clash on Friday at Webster Schroeder High School in the New York State Class C Softball Far West Regional. Here’s the breakdown:

BLOOMFIELD BOMBERS (18-2 / Independent)

WESTFIELD WOLVERINES (16-5 / Chautauqua/Cattaraugus II West)
Friday, Webster Schroeder HS, 7:30 p.m.

How they arrived here: Bloomfield defeated Campbell-Savona (13-0) in the quarterfinals and knocked off Oakfield-Alabama in the semifinals to punch a ticket to the championship. The Bombers then beat Letchworth 5-0 to win their first sectional title in program history and defeated Dundee/Bradford 3-0 in the Far West Regional qualifier. Westfield took down Silver Creek (1-0), top-seeded Barker (7-1) and Chautauqua Lake (2-0) to capture the Section VI Class C trophy.

Tempo and trends: Bloomfield scores 7.60 runs per game while allowing 0.90. Westfield averages 8.86 runs scored per game and 3.38 runs against per game. The Bombers are winners in 12 of their last 13, while the Wolverines are riding a three-game win streak.

History 101: Bloomfield enters the Far West Regional for the first time in program history. The Bombers have allowed a single run in four postseason games and have recorded 10 shutouts this season. Westfield is coming off its fifth sectional title in program history and aims for its second regional title. The Wolverines are 1-3 in the regional and fell to Friendship-Scio in each of the last two seasons. Westfield captured the Far West Regional in 2007, but fell in the NYS Semifinal to the eventual champion, Hoosic Valley (II).

What’s at stake: A spot in the Class C NYS Semifinal against the winner of Tuckahoe (I) and Pine Plains (IX).
