Gabby Lyons showed warning-track power in her first at-bat of Saturday’s Section V Class A final. The Pittsford Sutherland shortstop cleared the fence later when it mattered most. Lyons snapped a scoreless tie with a two-out blast in the fifth inning, and Sutherland avenged a loss to HF-L in last year’s Class A2 semifinal – a game in which the Cougars scored six runs in the seventh inning to erase a three-run deficit and win 8-6. Tournament MVP Neveah Ross led Friendship-Scio to its third straight sectional title hurling a two-hitter with 19 strikeouts and providing a two-run home run to the offense. Morghyn Ross gave Friendship-Scio all the runs needed with a sacrifice fly in the first to drive in Avery Lamberson and grab a 1-0 lead. Neveah Ross then delievered in the fifth to give Friendship-Scio a 3-0 lead. Grace Drumm added a hit and a run scored. Cierra Davenport connected on a single in the win. Alynn Dunning hurled a complete game with four strikeouts for Keshequa. Kelsey Davis and Libby Benner both had a hit.
