ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Red Wings and Toledo Mud Hens tried to play a game in the rain on Wednesday. Mother Nature won, forcing a suspension in the middle of the second inning with the Red Wings up 1-0.
Wednesday’s game will resume at 4:05 P.M. on Thursday. Thursday’s previously scheduled game will follow as a seven-inning game 30 minutes after the completion of the first game. Anyone with tickets for Wednesday’s game can exchange them for any remaining home game this season at the Red Wings ticket office.
At the time of suspension, Rochester led 1-0 thanks to their number two and three hitters: right fielder James Wood and designated hitter Juan Yepez.

Wood provided an early spark to get the Red Wings ahead, beating out a throw from Toledo shortstop Andrew Navigato for a one-out infield single in the bottom of the first. The prospect moved to second on a wild pitch before Yepez knocked him in with a single to right.
On the mound, right-hander Jackson Rutledge pitched two innings, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out one before the game was suspended. Even if the rain had subsided, Rutledge was unlikely to continue: he threw a bullpen session in the rain shortly before the game was officially called.
The de-facto starters for Rochester and Toledo for Thursday’s continuation of the game are unknown, but Rochester lefty DJ Herz (0-0, 6.14) and Toledo righty Matt Manning (1-0, 1.80) are the probable pitchers for the second game.
