Gabriela Lopez, who led Edison/WOIS/SWW to a 10-10 record, and a No. 2 seed in the Class AAA, was selected as the Rochester City Athletic Conference (RCAC) Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year, by the RCAC coaches.
Lopez averaged 14.5 points, 8.0 assists, and 7.0 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 24 points in a 78-22 win over RCAC rival School of the Arts. Lopez also record a season-highs of 10 rebounds against Wilson and nine assists against Monroe.
Joining Lopez on the first team is her Edison teammate Kaysia Jones as well as Gabriella Brown-Sturdviant, Nevaeh Grisham, and Semaj Jackson of East High School, and Tamia Dunham of Monroe.
The second team features Nakayla Costello of Edison/WOIS/SWW, Breyelle Geiger and Jasmyne Jones of School of the Arts, Chloe Jarvis of Franklin/NE Douglass, and Lourdes Perez of Monroe.
Rita Maybell of Franklin/NE Douglass coached the team to a 7-13 record, and a number 3 seed in the Class AAA sectional tournament, earning her the RCAC Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year award.
