Chris Leysath led Aquinas to a 17-3 regular season record and a top seed in Class AA. Ethan Krog helped C.G. Finney finish the season 13-7 and A No. 5 seed in Class C3. Private-Parochial League coaches named the senior forward and junior guard 2023-24 Player of the Year for their respective divisions.
Leysath averaged 16.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, all while three of his teammates each scored 15 points per game themselves. The 6-foot-5 forward recorded 17 double-doubles in 21 games played. A First Team All-Private-Parochial League performer a year ago, Leysath and the Li’l Irish opened the season 12-0 and a No. 9 ranking in the state.
Leysath’s teammates, Christian McCullough and Mackie Terry, joined him on the Private-Parochial League Division I First Team along with Jermelle Cotton (UPrep), Colin Gentile (Bishop Kearney), and Kyrell Shaw (Rochester Prep).
Krog averaged 21.8 points per game. He was 75 percent from the free throw line, and knocked down 73 three-pointers on the season. Krog, a First Team performer last season, scored 10 points in Finney’s 68-62 win over New York State Class C Regional champion, Lyons when the Falcons won three straight and five of six.
The Division II First team features Krog, as well as his C.G. Finney teammate Braelen Broome. Also on the team are Joe Aiken and Shawn Dukes of Rochester Academy Charter School along with Lorenzo Danesi and Justin Robinson of Northstar Christian.
