One team is coming off its 12th regional appearance and is looking for its third state title in program history. Another aims for its second state title and first since 2017. Lyons and Moravia are set to battle in the NYS Class C Boys’ semifinal. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Lyons opened the postseason with a 76-42 victory over Bloomfield before beating Gananda, 71-53. The Lions then defeated Pembroke, 71-53 to claim their 22nd title, dropped Byron-Bergen 61-45 in the Far West Regional qualifier and captured the Class C Far West Regional after defeating Randolph (61-44). Moravia topped Walton (81-31), Notre Dame (67-40) and Delaware Academy (49-42) to win the Section IV Class C title. The Blue Devils then beat Waterville (68-50) to advance to the NYS semifinal.

Trends: Lyons has won its last 13 games, with an average margin of victory of 18.8 points per game over that span. Moravia has won 19 straight, including a 76-51 victory over two-time defending Class C state champion, Avoca-Prattsburgh.

History 101: After winning its sixth regional title in program history, Lyons aims for its third NYS title. The Lions last captured the state crown in 1989 when they defeated Whitney Point (IV) 61-55. Moravia is continuing its path for a second title in program history. The Blue Devils took home the state trophy in 2017 and took down Stony Brook (XI) 55-53 and Lake George (II) 54-39 in the process.
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYSPHSAA Class C Boys’ final against the winner of Haldane (I) and Moriah (VII).
