
Section V and Section VI will do battle on Friday when two Class AAA champions will go head-to-head at Finger Lakes Community College. From Section V hails Fairport, which just won its first sectional title since 2010. Section VI representative Lancaster has won three straight sectional titles and is looking to get avenge a regional loss from a year ago. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Fairport defeated Franklin/Northeast (67-21) and Edison/WOIS/SWW (73-58) to advance to the Section V Class AAA championship before taking down Greece Arcadia/Olympia (42-35). Lancaster picked up a 72-43 win over Niagara Falls to win the Section VI Class AAA title.
Scoring offense: Fairport (41.7 PPG), Lancaster (60.8 PPG)
Scoring defense: Fairport (48.8 PPG), Lancaster (46.2 PPG)
Trends: Fairport has won four of its last five games, while Lancaster has picked up wins in seven of its past eight games.

History 101: Fairport is partaking in its eighth regional since 1988, and first since 2010 when the Red Raiders fell in the Class AA state semi-finals to Shenendehowa (II). This is Lancaster’s third straight appearance in the Far West Regional.
What’s at stake: A spot in the Class AAA NYS state semi-finals against the winner of Colonie Central (II) and Liverpool (III)
