One squad looks to continue its quest for a third straight NYS title. Another is making its sixth regional appearance since 2004. Steuben County meets Chautauqua Cattaraugus Athletic Association in the Boys’ Class D Far West Regional. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Avoca-Prattsburgh defeated Friendship/Scio in the quarterfinals 75-28 before beating Hammondsport 90-60 to earn a spot in the Section V Class D title game. The Titans then downed Elba 50-37 to reach the Class D Far West Regional. Pine Valley beat Forestville 62-32 and Clymer 30-28 to be crowned Section VI Class D champion.

History 101: Avoca-Prattsburgh is looking to continue its quest for a third straight NYS title. The Titans took down Panama 67-35 last season and Westfield 78-56 in 2022. That 2022 season saw the Titans finish undefeated, going 27-0. Pine Valley is making its sixth regional appearance in the last 20 years. The Panthers are 1-4 in previous state quarterfinals, with the lone win coming against Elba (47-45) in 2005. The Panthers then fell in the NYS semifinal.
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class D semifinal against either Harrisville (X) or Sacketts Harbor (III).
