Jack Leasure Shooting and Skills Camp Championship Preview: Lyons and Pembroke to do battle for Boys’ C1 crown

The tale of the tape between No. 1 seed Lyons and No. 3 seed Pembroke is nearly identical. Both teams won a sectional title in 2023. Both teams are currently on winning streaks of at least nine games. And most importantly, both teams will compete on Saturday to decide the Boys’ Class C1 sectional championship. Here’s the breakdown:

Current streak: Lyons has won its last 10 games, touting an average margin of victory of 19.2 points per game over that span. Pembroke has won 12 of its last 13 games, including nine straight.

How they arrived here: After having a bye in the first round, Lyons advanced past No. 9 seed Bloomfield in the quarterfinals thanks to a 76-42 victory. Its spot in the C1 championship was clinched after a 71-53 semi-final win over fourth-seeded Gananda. Pembroke also received a bye in the first round and won its quarterfinal game against No. 6 seed Warsaw 69-52. A 54-36 win over No. 2 seed East Rochester in the semi-finals was what earned the Dragons a place in the title game.

Coaches: Dean Schott II (Lyons), Matt Shay (Pembroke)

Last time they met: Lyons and Pembroke met in the 2023 Class C regional qualifier, with Lyons picking up a 59-56 win.

History 101: Pembroke is looking to win its second sectional title in a row after claiming its first title in program history in the 2023 C2 bracket. Lyons is attempting to win its 22nd sectional title and fifth since 2017.

What’s next: The winner advances to the Section V Class C regional qualifier.
