The top seed of Class D, Avoca/Prattsburgh is setting its sights on a fourth straight sectional championship. The only team left in their way now is No. 7 seed Elba, who has knocked off the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in Class D in sectional play. Here’s the breakdown:

Current streak: Avoca-Prattsburgh has won four of its past five games, while Elba is the winner of four straight games.
How they arrived here: Avoca-Prattsburgh defeated No. 8 seed Friendship/Scio in the quarterfinals 75-28 before beating No. 4 seed Hammondsport 90-60 to earn a spot in the title game. Elba won against No. 2 seed Jasper-Troupsburg in the quarterfinals 53-44 before beating No. 3 seed Andover-Whitesville in the semi-finals 40-36.

History 101: Avoca-Prattsburgh has won three straight sectional championships, winning D1 titles in 2022 and 2023 and a D2 title in 2021. Elba is looking for its fifth sectional title in program history, and the first since winning the D2 championship in 2017.
What’s next: The winner will advance to the Class D Boys’ Far West Regional to play the Section VI Class D winner.
