Le Roy and Attica/Alexander to decide Class C title

The top two seeds in Class C football will meet in Brockport on Saturday at 5 P.M. in the Section V Football Finals. Le Roy and Attica/Alexander have already met this season, with Le Roy handing Attica their lone defeat, but the game on Saturday has far higher stakes. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed Le ROY OATKAN KNIGHTS (10-0 , 8-0 in class play)

vs.

No. 2 seed ATTICA/ALEXANDER BLUE DEVILS (9-1, 7-1 in class play)

How they arrived here: Le Roy started their sectional tournament with a 33-22 win over No. 8 Penn Yan/Dundee in the quarterfinals, and then beat No. 4 East Rochester/Gananda in the semifinals, 37-6. On the other side of the bracket, Attica/Alexander opened their tournament with a 34-7 win over No. 7 Livonia before defeating No. 3 Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry in the semifinals, 42-0.

Players to watch for Le Roy: Thomas Condidorio Sr. QB/DB 41-for-87 passing, 737 passing yards, Nine passing touchdowns, 38 carries, 212 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, 949 total yards; Tony Piazza Sr. RB/LB 142 carries, 1179 rushing yards, 17 rushing touchdowns, three receptions, 37 receiving yards, 44 total tackles, one sack, one interception; Drew Strollo Sr. RB/LB 95 carries, 558 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, four receptions, 31 receiving yards, 33 tackles, four sacks, one interception; Jackson Fix Sr. RB/LB 62 carries, 406 rushing yards, eight rushing touchdowns, 15 receptions, 251 receiving yards, four receiving touchdowns, 32 tackles, one sack; Caleb Koukides Sr. WR/DB 11 receptions, 191 yards, two touchdowns, 13 tackles, one interception; Jude Sherman Jr. RB/DB 27 carries, 293 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 24 tackles; Connor Hegeman Sr. WR/DB Four receptions, 104 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown, 22 total tackles, three interceptions.

Players to watch for Attica/Alexander: Trent Woods Sr. 15-for-38 passing, 281 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, 46 carries, 298 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, nine receptions, 97 receiving yards, 37 tackles, six interceptions; Braden Allein Sr. 21-for-33 passing, 229 passing yards, 22 carries, 81 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns; Landyn Thomas Sr. 110 carries, 962 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, five receptions, 51 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown, 28 tackles, one sack; Tyler Marino Sr. 67 carries, 430 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 13 tackles, three interceptions; Samuel Strzelec Sr. 24 carries, 253 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 49 tackles, one sack, one interception; Cole Harding Sr. 29 tackles, one sack, two interceptions; Levi Pearl Sr. 19 carries, 167 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, five tackles, one sack.

Coaches: Mike Humphrey (Le Roy), Jeffrey Cusmano (Attica/Alexander)

Last Meeting: These teams met on Sept. 29 in Le Roy, with the Oatkan Knights winning, 44-27. Tony Piazza ran for 172 yards and four touchdowns for Le Roy in the win while also making seven tackles on defense.

History 101: Attica won last year’s Class C sectional with a 16-8 victory over ER/Gananda, clinching their first Section V title. Alexander, by itself, last won a title in Class D in 2018, having also won in 2016.

Le Roy fell in the semifinals last season to ER/Gananda. They’ve won 15 sectional titles, including 12 in Class C, their most recent coming in 2014.

What’s Next: The winner of Saturday’s game will advance to face their Section VI counterpart on Nov. 18 in the Far West Regional Championships.
