With the 2023 Section V Championships wrapped up, the winners from each class have turned their focus to chasing a state title. Six teams from Section V will look to advance this weekend in the New York State Far West Regionals. Here’s the breakdown:
Class AAA: Friday, November 3, 6:30 PM at Caledonia-Mumford High School
Section V Class AAA Champion FAIRPORT RED RAIDERS (6-8-2 overall /Monroe County Division I)
vs.
Section VI Class AAA Champion LANCASTER LEGENDS (13-5-0 overall / ECIC Division I)
How they arrived here: Fairport (No. 20 NYSSWA Class AA) won the AAA title with a 1-0 win over Rush-Henrietta. Lancaster (No. 12 NYSSWA CLASS AA) earned a 4-0 win over Niagara Falls in the semifinals before beating Orchard Park 2-1 to win the Section VI Class AAA championship.

Trends: Fairport has won three of its last five games. Lancaster has defeated their opponent in nine of the last 10 games its played.

Class AA: Saturday, November 4, 4:00 PM at Webster Schroeder High School
Section V Class AA Champion SPENCERPORT RANGERS (20-0-0 overall /Monroe County Division II)
vs.
Section VI Class AA Champion NIAGARA-WHEATFIELD FALCONS (14-2-1 overall / Niagara Frontier)
How they arrived here: Top-seeded Spencerport (No. 2 NYSWWA Class A) defeated No. 16 Greece Arcadia (10-0), No. 8 Victor (1-0) and No. 4 Pittsford Mendon (4-0) to reach the Class AA final before beating No. 2 seed Webster Schroeder 3-0 in the sectional title game. Niagara-Wheatfield (No. 9 NYSSWA Class A) advanced past Frontier with a 5-0 win in the quarterfinal round, Lockport with a 3-2 win in the semifinal round, and won 2-1 over Clarence to claim the Section VI Class AA title.

Trends: Spencerport enters boasting an undefeated record with six straight clean sheets. The Rangers have not allowed more than one goal in a single contest this season. Niagara-Wheatfield has only lost once in its past 10 games.

Class A: Saturday, November 4, 1:00 PM at Webster Schroeder High School
Section V Class A Champion AQUINAS LI’L IRISH (16-1-2 overall /Private-Parochial)
vs.
Section VI Class A Champion LEWISTON-PORTER LANCERS (15-4-0 overall / Niagara Frontier)
How they arrived here: Aquinas (No. 8 NYSSWA)started its tournament in the quarterfinals, where the Li’l Irish blanked No. 8 seed Honeoye Falls-Lima, 5-0. Aquinas then shut out No. 5 seed Greece Olympia, 3-0, to advance to the finals, where they won 2-0 over a Webster Schroeder squad that was the second seed. Lewiston-Porter (No. 12 NYSSWA) picked up an 11-0 win over Maryvale to open postseason play before taking down Iroquois 2-1 in the semifinals. A 1-0 win over City Honors gave them a sectional title, and a 2-1 win against Williamsville South in the crossover earned it a spot in regionals.

Trends: Aquinas hasn’t lost since a 1-0 defeat to Spencerport on Sept. 11 and hasn’t allowed a goal since a 4-1 win over Byron-Bergen on Oct. 3. The Li’l Iriish haven’t allowed multiple goals in one game all season long. Lewiston-Porter has picked up wins in seven of its last eight contests.

Section V Class B Champion HAVERLING RAMS (18-1-0 overall /Livingston County Division I)

Section VI Class B Champion SOUTHWESTERN TROJANS (16-3-1 overall / CCAA West Division I)
How they arrived here: Haverling (No. 3 NYSSWA) cruised to a 6-0 win over No. 16 seed Wayland-Cohocton in the opening round. The Rams went on to beat eighth-seeded Le Roy 1-0 in the quarterfinals before advancing past No. 4 seed Dansville 2-0 in the semis. They beat No. 3 seed Mynderse 2-0 to win the Section V title. Southwestern (No. 12 NYSSWA) started their run with a 5-0 victory over Newfane in the quarterfinal round, and then went on to beat Roy-Hart 1-0 in the semifinals. They won a sectional title with a 2-0 win over Allegany-Limestone before beating Fredonia 3-0 in the Class B crossover to make it to regionals.

Trends: Haverling hasn’t lost a game in over three weeks and hasn’t allowed a goal in its past five contests, outscoring opponents 22-0 during that span. Southwestern has picked up victories in 13 of its last 14 games.

Class C: Saturday, November 4, 5:00 PM at Caledonia-Mumford High School
Section V Class C Champion HOLLEY HAWKS (17-3-0 overall /Genesee Region Division I)
vs.
Section VI Class C Champion FREWSBURG BEARS (12-2-3 overall / CCAA West Division II)
How they arrived here: Holley (No. 9 NYSSWA Class C) opened the postseason with 4-0 win over No. 8 seed Red Creek then a 7-0 win over No. 4 seed Bloomfield before winning its first sectional title in 29 years with a 2-1 win over No. 2 Williamson. With a 3-2 win over Byron Bergen in the Class C regional qualifier, Holley clinched its first trip to regionals in program history. Frewsburg (No. 12 NYSSWA) advanced past Chautauqua Lake 2-1 in the semifinals before beating Wilson in penalty kicks in the Section VI Class C championship.

Trends: After starting the season with two losses in its first five games, Holley has dropped one decisions in its past 15 games and is outscoring opponents 77-10 during that period. Frewsburg has picked up wins in four of its last five contests.

Section V Class D Champion FILLMORE EAGLES (20-0-0 overall /Allegany County)
vs.
Section VI Class D Champion NORTH COLLINS EAGLES (8-7-3 overall /CCAA West Division II)
How they arrived here: Fillmore (No. 1 NYSSWA Class D) had a bye in the first round, and took down No. 8 seed Finney 9-0 and No. 5 seed Marion 3-0 on their way to the championship game, in which they beat second-seeded Northstar Christian 4-0. North Collins (No. 10 NYSSWA) took down Franklinville 2-0 in the semi-final round before beating Ellicottville 1-0 in the Section VI Class D championship.

Trends: Fillmore has scored five or more goals in seven of its last 10 games, while North Collins has won four of its last five games.
