Byron-Bergen/Elba faces Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale with spot in regionals on the line

A spot in the New York State Class C Far West Regional is up for grabs when Byron-Bergen/Elba takes on Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale, Wednesday night. Here’s the breakdown:

BYRON-BERGEN/ELBA BEES (16-2-1/Genesee Region)
vs.
CUBA-RUSHFORD/HINSDALE REBELS (12-7-1/Allegany County Division I)

How they arrived here: Byron-Bergen/Elba (No. 4 NYSSWA Class C) opened the postseason with a bye before knocking off No. 10 Holley 5-0, No. 3 Addison (6-1) and No. 1 East Rochester (1-0) to claim the C1 title. Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale defeated No. 12 Gananda (5-1), No. 4 Keshequa (1-0), No. 8 Bolivar-Richburg (1-0) and No. 2 Geneseo (2-1) to secure the Class C2 title.

Total goals scored: Byron-Bergen/Elba (74), Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale (37)

Total goals allowed: Byron-Bergen/Elba (16), Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale (40)

Trends: Byron-Bergen/Elba enters the match on a seven-game winning streak with four shutouts during that stretch. Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale has won five of its past six games.

History 101: The Byron-Bergen/Elba combined program won its second sectional championship and is looking for its second regional berth. The Bees advanced to the Class C state final in 2017 where they lost in overtime to Lansing (IV), 2-1. Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale is looking to make its first regional appearance.

What’s next: The winner will face Section VI champion Wilson (15-2-2) in the NYS Class A Far West Regional.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM Wednesday at Geneseo High School.
