Both Mynderse and Haverling have been playing the best defense of the year so far in sectionals, as neither team has allowed a goal through their three postseason games. However, something will have to break on Friday when the two will meet to decide the 2023 Section V Class B title. Here’s the preview-

How they arrived here: Mynderse got its sectional run started with a 2-0 win over No. 14 seed Attica before winning 1-0 against the No. 6 seed Hornell. It took on No. 7 seed Livonia in the semifinals, where Mynderse won in penalty kicks after both teams were scoreless in regulation and overtime. Haverling cruised to a 6-0 win over No. 16 seed Wayland-Cohocton in the opening round. The Rams went on to beat eighth-seeded Le Roy 1-0 in the quarterfinals before advancing past No. 4 seed Dansville 2-0 in the semis.
Total goals scored: Mynderse (42), Haverling (66)
Total goals allowed: Mynderse (21), Haverling (7)
Trends: Mynderse has only given up four goals in its past eight games, in which the Blue Devils have only lost one of those outings. Haverling hasn’t lost a game in over three weeks and hasn’t allowed a goal in its past five contests, outscoring opponents 20-0 during that span.
Players to watch for Mynderse: Myah Herron Jr. M/F 10 goals and four assists, Jackie Sinicropi Jr. M/F seven goals and eight assists, Lauren McDermott Sr. Goalkeeper 950 minutes in goal and 97 saves.
Players to watch for Haverling: Ella Yartym Sr. Forward 34 goals and 12 assists, Keegan Smith Sr. Midfielder 21 goals and 12 assists, Lola Coots Jr. Goalkeeper 1,182 minutes in goal and 47 saves; Lydia Dickson Sr. Midfielder three goals and five assists; Madison Thorp Jr. Midfielder three assists.

History 101: Mynderse is attempting to win its sixth title in program history and first since 2015. Haverling is looking to win its fourth straight sectional title and sixth in school history.
What’s next: The winner will take on the Class B winner from Section VI for a spot in the NYS semi-finals.
