Sectional Preview: Boys’ Class D Soccer

The 2023 Section V Class D Boys’ bracket features five Allegany County squads, three Steuben County teams, two Finger Lakes groups, two Private-Parochial League teams, a Wayne County team and one Livingston County AA unit. The tournament begins with first-round afternoon games on Tuesday, October 17th. Finals are scheduled to take place on Friday, October 27th.

Aside from being unbeaten, two teams put themselves in a position to stand out from the rest in Class D. Annual powerhouses, Fillmore and Naples combined for a record of 32-0-0 and a goal differential of 164 goals scored to nine goals against. For comparison, the third through sixth seeds combined for 173 goals scored to 104 goals against. Fillmore, the reigning state champion, is marching through its second straight undefeated season and looking to grab a fourth sectional title in five years. The Big Green has finished top three in every season since moving to Class D in ’21, but have yet to advance beyond the semifinals. Here’s the breakdown:
