ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Tatum Overton scored a first-half goal to give the Nazareth University Women’s Soccer team an early lead but Hartwick tied the score in the second half and the teams settled for a 1-1 tie as the Golden Flyers opened Empire 8 play Saturday at Golden Flyers Stadium.
Overton scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 30th minute with a through pass from senior Grace Lanzetta to give the Golden Flyers a 1-0 lead in the first half. The lead held for the remainder of the half and Nazareth took the lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Hartwick made an offensive push in the early minutes of the period and scored the equalizer just six minutes into the half.
Both teams had scoring chances in the second half but neither could take the lead.
Nazareth had a majority of the possession time and scoring chances late in the game with six shots and four corners in the last 30 minutes of action.
Junior Annika Monfort finished with five saves for Nazareth.Nazareth continues Empire 8 action Wednesday at Houghton before returning to Golden Flyer Stadium Saturday to face Keuka.
