ITHACA, NY – Junior Annika Monfort had 11 saves Saturday as the Nazareth University Women’s Soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on the road at Ithaca College.
After a scoreless first half, Ithaca (4-1-1) opened the scoring 12 minutes into the second half as the Bomber player dribble in from the sideline into the box and fired a low shot past Monfort and into the lower corner of the goal.
The score remained 1-0 until late in the game when Ithaca scored a goal off a free kick with just over 10 minutes to play to double the score. The free kick, from 35 yards out, bounced in the box and was controlled by Ithaca and knocked in for the goal.
The Bombers held a 22-8 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks for the game.
Monfort finished with 11 saves and eclipsed the 250 career saves milestone. The junior now has 258 career stops for the Golden Flyers.Nazareth begins Empire 8 play with its next game Saturday at home against Hartwick with a 1 p.m. start.
