Upstate Baseball League Monday Wrap: Sawx score early, win fifth; Davey and Sova propel Amazins to third straight win

The Sawx scored nine runs across the first three innings on their way to putting up a season-high in runs scored. Evan Cuba got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first inning. Jace Crawford and Cuba ended up coming around the bases to score in the frame. Cuba then scored Crawford in the second inning to make it 4-0 Sawx. Ben Horvath and Jared Sova had RBI and Cameron Rider drew a walk that scored Kayden Yapjoco in the third inning. Horvath and Rider also scored on passed balls in the third inning as well to make it 9-1 Sawx. Derrick Allen finished with an RBI and three walks.

Horvath had two RBI and a walk. Joseph Presutti singled, walked scored a run, and drove in a run. Tyler Gentzke scored a run, drew a walk, and had an RBI. Presutti threw three innings in relief and struck out two batters. Cuba started and struck out four over two innings. Rider fanned one in one inning of work.  Christian Morrison had an RBI triple for the A’s. Robbie Langdon singled, walked and scored a run. Mickey Hummel had a single and a run scored. Ryan Grasley singled, walked and drove in a run. Jack Salerno singled, scored, and had an RBI. Matthew Scibienski singled twice and scored. Jameson Hummel scored and had an RBI. Josh Pearson had two RBI and a single.

Mason Davey, Jacob Sova and Will Nunn combined to hurl a three-hitter as the Amazins used a five-run first inning to separate themselves from Pale Hose to win their third straight game. Davey started and struck out five over three innings of work. The right-hander retired six of seven from the end of the first into the third. Sova fanned three over two scoreless innings while Nunn retired four of the last six batters he faced in two innings of work. The scoring started when Davey reached on an error that brought home Xander Rodgers and Jared Swift.

Sova also came home on an error. Ryan Merlo and Willam Nunn drew walks that added two more runs to make it 5-0 in the top of the first. Davey added a two-run single, and Alan Plummer had a run-scoring triple in the sixth inning when the Amazins added four more runs. Davey’s finished 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and four RBI. Sova scored twice and had two singles. Plummer had two RBI. Rodgers drew a walk.

Colin MacLean had an RBI triple in the first inning for Pale Hose that scored Patrick Altpeter. Ethan Light had an RBI single in the sixth inning that scored MacLean. Mathew Gross singled. Gabriel Rivera and Brady Prebalick each drew a pair of walks. Fred Ferrer struck out two and retired all six batters he faced over two innings of relief work. Rivera struck out three batters over two innings. Martin MacConnell fanned three in two innings of work.
