The Rochester Red Wings beat the Worcester Red Sox on Thursday, 6-5, on a ninth-inning two-run home run by Erick Mejia.
The home run, Mejia’s fourth of the season, provided the Red Wings their first and only lead of the game after they had tied the game on two other occasions only to fall behind again.

After Worcester grabbed the 1-0 lead on a wild pitch in the first inning, the Wings tied it up for the first time in the top of the second when Blake Rutherford scored on a Matt Adams groundout.
Worcester retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth on Bobby Dalbec‘s 25th home run of the season to make it 2-1 before another run scored on an error to extend the lead to 3-1. An inning later, they grew their lead even more on an RBI double by Reese McGuire to make the score 4-1.
Rochester stormed back in the top of the sixth, as Jake Alu scored on a bases-loaded double play to narrow the lead to 4-2 before the next batter, Drew Millas, hit a two-run home run to tie it at four.
The Red Sox took their final lead of the game in the seventh when Niko Kavadas scored on a double play groundout by a rehabbing Trevor Story, but Rochester pitchers prevented any other Worcester runs the rest of the game.
Millas led the Red Wings at the plate with a 3-for-3 night, including his home run in the sixth and a double to lead off the ninth before Mejia’s home run. Rutherford went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored before being pinch-run for by Richie Martin in the eighth.
Amos Willingham took the win after throwing a scoreless eighth to move to 3-1 on the year, while Gerson Moreno struck out two in the ninth as he picked up his seventh save.
Rochester (13-11 in the second half, 47-50 overall, two games behind league leaders) will play Worcester (14-9 in the second half, 53-45 overall, 0.5 games behind league leaders) again on Friday at 6:45 p.m. Red Wings right-hander Joan Adon (3-5, 4.46) is scheduled to pitch against Worcester lefty Shane Drohan (2-4, 5.94).
