In game one, Worcester pitchers held the Wings to just three hits over the seven-inning contest. Kyle Blankenhorn accounted for both Rochester runs with his ninth home run of the year, a two-run shot to right with two outs in the fourth to give Rochester a 2-1 lead. The Sox retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth with an Enmanuel Valdez home run and a Christian Koss sacrifice fly to make it 3-2, and they added two insurance runs in the sixth for the 5-2 win.
Worcester took an early lead in game two on a two-out bases-loaded single by Nick Sogard in the second inning to make it 2-0. Rochester began to claw back in the fifth, as Richie Martin scored on a balk to make it 2-1. Nomar Mazara would then tie it up with a single in the top of the sixth, 2-2.
With the score tied after seven innings in a doubleheader game, extra-inning rules went into effect beginning in the eighth for game two. Cody Wilson reached third base with a two-out steal, but the Red Wings couldn’t get him home during the top of the inning. Worcester walked off in victory in the bottom half of the eighth on a Ronaldo Wilson sacrifice fly, 3-2.
The twin-bill, made necessary by a rainout on Friday, was Rochester’s first since May 4. The Red Wings are now 1-5 in doubleheader games this season.
Rochester concludes its series with Worcester on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Joan Adon is the probable pitcher. A win will earn Rochester a 3-3 series tie.
