Sam Miller hurled eight-plus shutout innings, but it wasn’t enough as Fairport baseball fell in 11 innings. Miller struck out six while scattering four hits and five walks in making his second straight postseason outing of seven innings or more. Noah Hoffman unloaded a bases-clearing double in the third, part of a 10-run frame for Williamsville East as the Flames went on to clinch NYS Class A Far West Regional championship at Dwyer Stadium. In the inning, the Flames sent 15 batters to the plate and strung together six hits and worked four walks. Gavin Steinacher followed Hoffman’s double with a run-scoring two-bagger of his own. Tino LoPresto singled and scored for an early 1-0 advantage, but Palmyra-Macedon could not hold on to the lead. LoPresto, who moved to second on a Christian Morrison base hit, took advantage of an errant pickoff attempt to get third and came home on the play when Morrison was caught in a rundown between first and second. Ian Goodness started and struck out 12 over 5.1 innings of work. The right-hander walked four and did not allow an earned run. Goodness and Noah Brooks had a single apiece in the game. Brady Prebalick added a double. Joshua Toolen started and struck out four over five innings of work to pick up the win for Depew. Toolen’s two-out single plated two runs and highlighted a three-run Depew fourth. Eric Woodley capped the inning with an RBI double. Anthony Weber added a run with a two-out double in the sixth. Palmyra-Macedon, winners of three straight sectional titles, was seeking a second straight regional championship. The Red Raiders came into the game with 18 straight wins and averaging 6.91 runs per game.

Hayden Groff finished 2-for-3 in the game and delivered the go-ahead with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning as Notre Dame-Batavia clinched its third Far West Regional championship and first since 2014. Bryceton Berry walked and scored on Groff’s fly ball. Ryan Fitzpatrick allowed two runs on five hits over two innings of relief work to pick up the win. Fitzpatrick also walked and scored a run in the win. Berry started and fanned six over five innings of work. Jaden Sherwood went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Jay Antinore added an RBI triple. Groff doubled and drove in three runs. Chase Cummings singled and scored. Jordan Welker walked and scored. Gowanda’s John Ondus was 2-for-3 with a solo shot in the fourth to get Gowanda on the board. Ondus plated Brayden Smith with single in the sixth to tie the score at five. Blake Herman was 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Alex Pachucinski singled, walked and scored. Notre Dame-Batavia will defending state champion Chatham (II) next Friday in the NYS Class semifinals. A 2:00 PM first pitch is scheduled at Maine-Endwell High School.

After two North Collins Eagles reached base in the top of the seventh, Schwaderer induced two pop-outs, then forced a groundout after a walk to load the bases, sending Northstar Christian to the NYS semifinals for the first time since 2004. READ MORE.
