Haverling and Penn Yan to decide B2 championship

One team is looking to win a second straight title and eighth in program history. The other seeks to end a four-decade drought. Livingston County Athletic Association meets Finger Lakes East when Haverling faces Penn Yan for the 2023 Section V Class B2 championship. Here is the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Fourth-seeded Penn Yan beat No. 5 Dansville in the quarterfinals and No. 8 Le Roy to earn a spot in the championship game. No. 3 Haverling eliminated No. 6 Attica in quarterfinals and No. 7 Wellsville in semifinals to reach the finals.

Tempo and Trends: Penn Yan scores 4.4 runs per game and allows 6.2. The Mustangs have won three of their last four games heading into the championship. Haverling scores 6.1 runs per game and allows 5.2 runs per game. The Rams have won three in-a-row heading into the finals.

What’s at Stake: The winner advances to the Class B Regional Qualifier and will face the B1 champion.

History 101: Penn Yan is making its second title-game appearance in three years. The Mustangs only championship came in 1983. Haverling has won seven sectional titles since 1995 including a a 5-0 victory over Le Roy in the 2022 B2 championship.
