Right-hander Jose Urena started the game for the Red Wings and went four innings, striking out four while allowing four hits and two walks. Tommy Romero followed and threw two hitless innings and earned his first win of the season. Alberto Baldonado struck out three and allowed a hit during the seventh and eighth, and Tyler Danish closed it out for his second save of the season.
The Red Wings could only notch four hits against five Toledo pitchers, including starter Brenan Hanifee, but they made them count and took advantage of Toledo miscues.
Their first hit of the day also gave them their first run, as right fielder Nomar Mazara led off the second with a solo shot to right-center for his second Red Wings home run of the season. An inning later, Richie Martin led off with a triple and later scored on a single by Darren Baker. Baker advanced to second when Carter Kieboom reached on an error and then scored when Jake Alu grounded out, only to advance all the way to third when the Mud Hens committed two errors on the play.
The Red Wings return to action on Thursday with a 6:35 game at Toledo. Right-hander Joan Adon is expected to start for Rochester against the Mud Hen’s Austin Bregner.
