VICTOR, N.Y. — Liana DeValder hurled a complete game shutout, fanning seven as Webster Schroeder defeated Victor 2-0 to remain atop the Class AA standings.

Three of the seven recorded strikeouts were looking. DeValder retired the last seven batters in order to finish the game and recorded four 1-2-3 innings.

In the bottom of the second, Victor’s Renee Carnevale led off the inning with a base hit up the middle. DeValder then retired the next two batters, but allowed a walk to Olivia Steinorth and a Marion Naple single to load the bases. DeValder then recorded a strikeout to strand the bases loaded.

Olivia Steinorth got the start in the circle for the Blue Devils and allowed two runs (both unearned) on four hits while striking out nine. After a leadoff walk to start the game, Steinorth retired 12 in a row and only allowed three balls to leave the infield in that span.

Webster Schroeder loaded the bases with back-to-back two-out singles by Leah Murray and Teagan Murphy, followed by a walk to Mikayla Bengsch. Steinorth was able to fan the next batter to get out of the jam.

Schroeder broke through in the sixth when Carley Casteline roped a ground ball that went off the shortstop and into center field, scoring Murray and Bizzie Baglieri and giving the Warriors all the runs they needed.

Baglieri and Murray both singled for the Warriors. Teagan Murphy went 1-for-1. Samantha Schoenhardt had the other hit for Webster Schroeder.

Makenna Hobson, Audrey Steinorth, Carnevale and Naple all tallied hits for Victor.

Schroeder (12-4), the reigning NYS Class A champion, holds a slim lead atop the AA standings over Rush-Henrietta (12-4) and Victor (12-5). The 2022 Section V Class AA champion, Fairport (9-6) is in fourth.
