ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team swept Vassar in the Crossover Divisional Series on Saturday to advance to the Liberty League conference tournament, winning game one, 8-4, and game two, 4-3, for the victory in the best-of-three series.
GAME 1- RIT 8, Vassar 4
Junior first baseman John Bagley, senior left fielder Chris Reilly, and first-year designated hitter Roberto Reade had two RBI each as the Tigers won the opening game of the series. Junior pitcher John Arnold earned the win for five innings of three-hit work, allowing an earned run while striking out three. Graduate student Eric Sipling threw two innings of relief to finish the game, allowing a single hit.
The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first, as junior shortstop Randy Dodig scored on an RBI groundout by Reilly to make it 1-0.
Vassar tied it in the top of the second, 1-1, with a run scored on an error.
The Brewers jumped ahead in the top of the third on an RBI double by Ezra Caspi to gain the 2-1 lead.
RIT retook the lead in the bottom of the third with a five-run inning to make it 6-2, including a Reilly single and a two-RBI single by first year designated hitter Roberto Reade.
The Tigers extended their lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth thanks to RBI singles from Bagley and first year second baseman Jarin Moses.
Vassar narrowed the lead to 8-4 with a two-RBI seventh inning single by Adam Talwalker, but RIT was able to hold on for the victory.
GAME 2- RIT 4, Vassar 3
The Tigers completed the sweep in the win in the seven-inning second game thanks to a late RBI single by Bagley, aided by 10 strikeouts by senior starter Alex Slotter and hitless innings of relief by Sipling and senior Peter Bossinas.
Vassar grabbed the early 2-0 lead with a two-run second.
RIT got on the board in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by graduate student right fielder Ian Libby to narrow Vassar’s lead to 2-1.
The Tigers tied it up, 2-2, with one out in the bottom of the fifth, as Bagley singled through the right side to bring first year third baseman Charlie Slaymaker in to score from second.
RIT then grabbed the lead later in the inning as sophomore center fielder Adam Marsh singled into left to score Libby and move ahead 3-2.
Vassar tied it up, 3-3, on a sacrifice bunt by Ty Murray in the top of the sixth.
Another Bagley single to score Slaymaker from second with two outs in the bottom of the sixth gave RIT another lead, 4-3.
Although Vassar threatened in the top of the seventh, Bossinas came in and held on for the save to send the Tigers to the Liberty League conference tournament.

The Tigers will return to play next week for the double-elimination conference tournament at a location to be determined.
