PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University baseball team ended their regular season at home, as they hosted Utica University for game three of a three-game series. A six-run eighth inning helped push the Cardinals to a 9-4 victory. After today’s result, Fisher moves to an overall record of 27-12 and a conference record of 18-0.
The Cardinals fell behind in early, facing a 4-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the third. Starting the scoring for Fisher, Brian Norsen reached first on an error, with two runners scoring, Fisher trailing 2-4. In the bottom of the fifth, John Wells scored on a balk. The bottom of the eighth saw Ethan Fulton double down the left field line, bringing home two runners. Two batters later, Ethan Bowers singled to left center, driving in two more runs. Right after, John Wells singled to left field, with two more runners scoring.
Starting for the Cardinals, Benjamin Huckans pitched the first 2.0 innings, facing 10 batters, striking out two, and allowing four hits and two runs. Chistian O’Briend pitched the third frame, giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits. Logan Persse took on the fourth and fifth inning and allowed just one hit. Joseph Tronetti tossed 3.0 innings and allow no runs and no hits. Jason Wall took care of the ninth, mowing down the final three batters on 14 pitches.
Up next, Fisher hosts the Empire 8 Championship, as the #1 seed. The double elimination tournament will begin on Thursday, May 11th and go through Saturday, May 13th.
