Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball team went 2-0 at home against Oswego on Saturday afternoon for their annual Hometown Heroes game. They won the first game in the 13th inning with a score of 9-8, and the second 12-7.
Game One – Starting to the day on the mound for the Golden Eagles was Matthew Colucci. Colucci pitched 5.2 innings, he let up 10 hits, six runs, three walks, and struck out four batters.
Oswego got the first runs of the game in the top of the third inning. Ryan Voight singled in the bottom of the third. He stole second but was left on base.
In the bottom of the fourth Nicholas Pastore doubled to left field. Zach Eldred singled to first base, and Pastore advanced to third. Both men were left on base as the inning ended.
In top of the fifth inning Oswego scored two more runs. They scored another two in the top of the sixth, bringing the total to 0-6.
David Belsito singled to right field, stating of the sixth inning with a hit. Pastore grounded out to the pitcher and Belsito advanced to second. Eldred was hit by a pitch and Patrick Bigham singled; Belsito was tagged out on hit was to the home plate. Ryan Mansell walked and Bigham advanced to second. Ryan Voight singled to right field batting in Bigham and Eldred. Johnny Genau singled to left field, and batted in Mansell, scoring the Golden Eagles third run of the game.
Brockport battled in the bottom of the ninth, evening up the score to keep the game alive. Justin Pangburn singled to the shortstop, followed by a single to right from Belsito, Pangburn advanced to third. Frank Vanillot pinch ran for Belstio. Pastore grounded out to second base, bringing home Pangburn. Eldred reached first by an error and Vanzillot scored. Bigham brought home Eldred for the game tying run with a sacrifice fly.
The game was neck and neck with 6-6 runs until the top of the 12th when Oswego scored two more runs up 8-6.
Brockport kept the game alive, tying it up again in the bottom of the 12th. Ryan Mansell walked and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Ryan Voight walked and Genau grounded out to the pitcher with a sacrifice bunt, both men advanced bases. Brian Tietjen was hit by pitch. With bases loaded Pangburn singled to second base, batting in Voight and Mansell for the eighth run of the game. Pangburn advanced to second on a past ball and stole third. Jason Mansell was hit by a pitch. Pastore reached on a fielder’s choice and Mansell was tagged out on his was to second.
Brockport scored their final run in the bottom of the 13th when Eldred doubled to right field. Bigham reached first by an error and Eldred scored.
Nick Ianniello pitched 3.1 innings, let up three this, one walk and struck out four batters. Andrew Huffman pitched 2.0 innings, gave up two hits, two runs and struck out two batters. Cooper Meldrim earned the win pitching the final two innings, letting up one hit across seven at bats.
Game Two – Starting on the mound for the Green and Gold was Colin Pytlak. He earned the win this afternoon after pitching 5.0 innings. He gave up eight runs, five hits, one walk, and two struck outs.
Oswego scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Luckily Brockport matched it staying in it. Voight singled to right field, followed by a walk from Belsito. Pastore singled to left field and brought home Voight. Eldred reached first on an error by the second basemen. Bigham was hit by a pitch and Belsito scored. Ryan Mansell sacrificed to bring home Pastore and Genau doubled to left bringing home Eldred. Genau advanced to third and Bigham scored on a past ball, tying the game at 5-5.
Brockport scored their sixth run of the game in the bottom of the second. Voight singled to center field and then stole second. Pastore walked and Eldred singled to left. Eldred advanced to second, Pastore to third and Voight home a wild pitch.
They scored two more runs in the bottom of the third. Pangburn reached first on an error by the third basemen. Josh Indek walked and Pangburn advanced to second. Voight doubled center field and brought home Pangburn. Belsito popped up to the catcher as a sacrifice, bringing home Indek.
In the bottom of the sixth Pastore singled to third base, then stole second. Eldred hit a home run bringing home Pastore for the seventh and eighth runs of the game.
In the bottom of the seventh Ryan Mansell walked and then advanced to second on a balk. Pangburn singled to left field and Mansell advanced to third. Pangburn advanced on an error and Mansell scored. Pangburn then advanced to third on a passed ball. Voight walked and Jason Mansell doubled to right field, bringing home Pangburn for the final run of the game.
Oswego scored their final two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but it was not enough to come back. Final score of 12-7.
Justin DelVecchio pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three hits, two runs, one walk and struck out six batters. Michael Heilig came in to finish out the final 1.2 innings, giving up a hit with no runs and had one strikeout.
Brockport will compete at the SUNYAC Conference tournament at the end of the week in Cortland, starting this Thursday May 11th. After locking up the No. 2 seed, the Golden Eagles will face No. 3 Oneonta at at 3:30pm for their first game of the tournament.
