Geneseo, NY – The Golden Eagle softball team got swept by Geneseo in a doubleheader on the road Thursday evening. They lost to the Knights by scores of 6-0 and 9-1 on the day.
Game 1
Fiona Gibiser threw 6.0 innings as the starter in game one for the Green and Gold. She struck out four batters and allowed three earned runs on five hits.
Jenna Downey was one of four batters to register a hit, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Riley Barrett, Kellie Gentile, and Annie Dipirro all were 1-for-3 in the game.
Geneseo had a big inning in the second, scoring five runs to go up 5-0 heading into the third. While Brockport failed to get on the board in the game, the Knights added a sixth run in the fourth to help secure the win.
Game 2
Roseland Stroh went 5.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts as the starting pitcher for the second leg of the doubleheader. Laina Beer returned to the field pitching 0.2 innings, her first outing since early March.
The Brockport bats produced two extra base hits in the game. Kellie Gentile was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Jackie DuTot connected for an RBI double to go 1-for-3 at the dish. Emma DeJesus and Hannah Jacobs each both had one hit as well in game two.
In the first two innings Geneseo was able to score a pair of runs to create an early 2-0 lead. The Knights added two more in the fifth to go up 4-0 heading into the top of six. After Gentile hit a triple, DuTot doubled to score Brockport’s lone run of the game.
Five more runs for Geneseo in the sixth invoked the mercy rule, ending the game at 9-1.
The Golden Eagles are back at home on Tuesday, May 2nd for a non-conference doubleheader with Medaille. The action begins at 3pm at the Clark V. Whited Complex.
