Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball team went 1-1 today for Senior Day against Bard College. The Golden Eagles won the first game 19-3 and fell in the second 7-5.
Game One – Matthew Colucci started on the mound for the Golden Eagles pitching 6.2 innings. Colucci struck out six batters, let up six hits, three runs, and two walks. Earning his fifth win of the season.
James Houlahan started the action by advancing to first on a hit by pitch. Justin Pangburn walked and Houlahan advanced to second. Nicholas Pastore singled to the pitcher and both men advanced. With bases loaded Eldred hit a sacrifice fly to right field bringing home Houlahan. Patrick Bigham singled to left field, batting in Pangburn. Ryan Voight singled to center field, Pastore advanced to third and Bigham to second. Johnny Genau brought home Nicholas Pastore with a sacrifice fly. Ryan Mansell singled to second base but was left on base with Voight and Bigham as the inning came to a close.
Brockport scored the fourth run of the game in the bottom of the second. Pastore was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Eldred tripled to center field, bringing home Pastore.
Bard scored their first run of the game in the top of the third inning.
The only inning the Golden Eagles didn’t score a run in was the third. Bard scored its second run in the top of the fourth before Brockport was back in action in the bottom of the fifth. Zach Eldred hit his second triple of the day to left field. Bigham singled to center field batting in Eldred for run number five.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Genau was walked. Mansell reached on a fielder’s choice and Genau was out at second. Mansell stole second. Houlahan reached first on an error by the shortstop and Mansell scored.
Bard scored another run in the top of the sixth, now trailing 6-3.
Pastore started the bottom of the sixth with a single to right field. Eldred singled to third base and Pastore advanced to third. Bigham doubled, bringing home Pastore and helping Eldred advance to third.
Brockport scored three more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Houlahan singled to third base. Nick Pastore doubled and Houlahan advanced to third. Eldred doubled to center field, bringing home Pastore and Houlahan. Voight singled to center field and Eldred scored.
Brockport had a big eighth inning, scoring nine runs. Mason Davis started the inning with a home run. Jason Mansell followed with a single to center field. Adam Douglas pinch ran for Jason Mansell and advanced to second on a wild pitch. James Houlahan singled to center field and advanced to second, brining Doulas home. Pangburn doubled and brought home Houlahan. Pastore was walked and Eldred hit a single. With bases loaded, Sam Law was walked and Pangburn scored. Chris Martin pinch ran for Sam Law and Nick Ianniello walked, Pastore scored. Davis was hit by a pitch and Eldred came home. All the men advanced on a passed ball; Martin scored. Logan Wing Walked. Everyone advanced on a wild pitch. Alan Michael-LeFrois walked, and everyone advanced again on a wild pitch. Davis scored the final run of the game.
Justin DelVecchio pitched 1.1 innings on the hill. He struck out two batters and let up one hit. Connor Furst pitched 1.0 innings. He struck out one batter, let up one hit and one walk.
Game Two – Colin Pytlak started game two on the mound for 5.0 innings. He struck out four batters, let up four hits, four runs and two walks.
Bard opened this game with two runs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the third inning Nick Mahar singled to second base and advanced to second on an error. He was left on base as the inning came to an end.
Brockport scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth. Eldred doubled to left field. Voight grounded out to second but Eldred advanced to third on the play. David Belsito singled to right field and Eldred scored.
Bard scored twice more in the top of the fifth inning. The team scored its fifth and sixth runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the seventh in the top of the seventh.
Brockport scored its final runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nick Mahar singled to center field and Josh Indek was put in to pinch run for him. Pangburn singled to left and Indek advanced to second. Pastore doubled to left field and Indek scored. Eldred hit a home run and batted in Pastore and Pangburn for the final three runs of the game.
Anthony Lapine pitched 0.1 innings, letting up four hits and two runs. Cooper Meldrim pitched 1.2 innings, striking outs two batters, letting up one hit, one run and one walk.
Brockport will be on the road Tuesday, May 2nd at 4pm for a game against Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.
