Fredonia, NY – The SUNY Brockport Baseball team went 2-0 on the day after beating the Fredonia State Blue Devils 17-3 in the first game and 12-7 in the second.
Game One – Justin Pangburn started the game with a single, followed by him advancing to second on a passed ball. Nicholas Pastore hit a single brining home Pangburn for the first run of the game. Pastore stole second base before Brian Tietjen hit a home run, batting in Pastore as well.
In the top of the third, Pastore started the inning off with a walk. Zach Eldred also walked. Tietjen hit a single and batted Pastore in.
In the top of the fourth Pangburn walked and then stole second. Pastore hit a single bringing Pangburn home.
Fredonia scored their only three runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Tietjen singled in the top of the fifth. Nich Mahar hit a double and Tietjen advanced to third. Ryan Mansell flied out to left field and Tietjen scored. Johnny Genau was hit by a pitch and then stole second while Mahar stole third. Mahar scored on a passed ball and Genau was left on base.
In the top of the sixth Pat Bigham walked followed by a single from Tietjen. Mahar was walked and the bases were loaded. Ryan Mansel hit a single batting in both Bigham and Tietjen. Genau hit a single right after bringing home Mansell and Mahar, putting the Golden Eagles up 11-3 going into the bottom of the sixth.
The final runs of the first game were scored in the top of the seventh. Pangburn was walked and Pastore reached first on an error by the pitcher, both men advanced another base. Eldred was walked and James Houlahan sacrificed a fly to left field bringing home Pangburn. Eldred advanced to second Quinn Mahoney pinch ran for Pastore, stealing third. Eldred advanced to third and Mahoney scored on a passed ball. Tietjen was walked and Nick Ianiello was hit by a pitch. Tietjen advanced to second. Ryan Mansell was walked, all the men advanced and Eldred scored. Genau reached first on a fielded choice and Tietjen scored. Jason Mansell singled and batted in Ianniello for the final run of the 17-3 game.
Brendan Pajak started on the mound for the green and gold pitching 6.1 innings, stiking out nine batters, letting up four hits, three runs and one walk.
Connor Furst pitched 0.2 innings, struck out two batters and didn’t let up a hit or run.
Game Two – Pastore started the second game with a single. Eldred walked, and Pastore advanced to second. Bigham hit a double, bringing home both Pastore and Eldred.
In the top of the second Genau reached first by an error on the second basemen. Ryan Mansell reached first by an error on the pitched and Genau advanced to third. Pangburn reached first by an error on the shortstop and Genau scored. Mansell advanced to third on a balk and Pangburn advanced to second. Pastore was walked. Eldred flied out to center field and Mansell scored. Bigham singled, brigning home Pangburn. Houlahan reached first by an errpr on the first basemen and Pastore scored the 6th run of the game.
Brockport scored another run in the top of the third when Ryan Mansell doubled. Pangburn reached on a fielder’s choice and Mansell was tagged out at third. Pangburn stole second. Pastore hit a double and pangburn scored.
Fredonia scored two of their six runs in the bottom of the fourth. They scored their final four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the eigth, Houlahan singled. Ryan Voight hit a single and Houlhan advanced to third. Genau hit a single to bring home Houlhan and the 8th run of the game for the Green and Gold.
The last runs of the game were scored in the top of the eighth inning. Pastore singled, followed by a single form Eldred. Bigham reached on an error by the pitched. Houlahan hit a single, batting in Pastore and Eldred. Frank Vanzillot pinch ran for Bigham and scored on Voight’s double. Genau flied out to center field and brought Houlhan home for the final run of the game.
Colin Pytlak pitched 5.1 innings, struck out eight batters, let up five hits, five runs, two walks and earned the win. Anthony Lapine pitched 1.2 innings, stuck out one batter, let up three hits, two runs and one walk. Justin Delvecchio pitched 2.0 innings, striking out three batters and letting up one hit.
The men will return to Clark V. Whited to host The University of Rochester on Tuesday, April 18th at 4pm.
