Fredonia, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team picked up its first win in conference play of the season after splitting the doubleheader with Fredonia. The Blue Devils took game one, 5-1, before the Golden Eagles snagged the second game, 6-4.
Kellie Gentile, Jodie Burdick, Annie Dipirro, and Caitlyn Dailey were all 1-for-3 at the plate in game one. Riley Barrett went 1-for-2 and she scored the team’s only run of the outing, as Gentile was credited with the RBI.
Fiona Gibiser pitched the full game for the Green and Gold, striking out six batters to go with 11 hits and four earned runs allowed.
Fredonia got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first. Brockport responded in the third with a run to tie the score at 1-1. The Blue Devils added to their tally in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to pull away for the 5-1 win.
Annie Dipirro connected for two RBIs while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Kellie Gentile was 1-for-2 as well with a run, one RBI, and she walked twice. Danielle Wenzek and Jackie DuTot were both credited for an RBI as well in the contest.
Riley Barrett scored a pair of runs from the leadoff spot in the lineup, going 1-for-4 at the dish. Olivia Hayden came around to score once while batting 1-for-4 as well. Roseland Stroh got the win in the circle, striking out six batters and allowing three earned runs in 7.0 innings pitched.
An RBI single from Dipirro got the game started in the first. Fredonia responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score at 1-1. Gentile and Dipirro brought runs home again in the third to put Brockport up 3-1.
The Blue Devils worked to add runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. They eventually created a 4-3 lead heading into the sixth. The Golden Eagles went on to score three unanswered runs in the last two innings to take the 6-4 win. They are now 4-18 overall and 1-7 in the SUNYAC.
Brockport is back at home next weekend for matchups against Cortland at 3pm on Friday and Oswego at 12pm on Saturday.
