Albany, NY – The SUNY Brockport Baseball team beat Russel sage 13-7 in Albany at Varsity Field on Wednesday afternoon. The squad has won its last two games and is now 16-9 overall.
Justin DelVecchio started on the mound for the Green and Gold pitching 3.0 innings. He struck out six batters, let up two hits and no runs. Cooper Meldrim came in to get two outs in the fourth inning, including one strikeout. Angelo Agro (W, 1-0) picks up his first win of the season after going 2.1 innings allowing just one hit and no runs.
Brendan Pajack struck out two of the three batters he got out during his one inning of action. Michael Heilig did the same in the bottom of the eighth, sitting down two batters looking at a called strike three. Keegan Jarvais and Ryan Peters both chipped in at the mound in the ninth inning to finish this one out.
Nicholas Pastore started the game of for the Golden Eagles with a single to right field but was caught stealing on his way to second base. Zach Eldred was up to bat next hitting hit third home run of the year and securing the first run of the game for the Golden Eagles. Patrick Bigham singled to left field, followed by a single from James Houlahan but both men remained on base at the end of the inning.
Johnny Genau got the start of the second inning rolling with a double. Ryan Voight then flied out to left field and Genau advanced to third. Ryan Mansell then flied out to right field as a sacrifice, bringing Genau home for the Goolden Eagles second run of the game.
Brockport had a big fourth inning, bringing home four runs. Genau reached first by an error on the second basement and Voight reached first by an error on the catcher. Genau then advanced to second. Justin Pangburn singled to left field, putting the Golden Eagles in a bases loaded situation. Pastore flied out to the short stop as a sacrifice bringing Genau home. Eldred then walked, making bases loaded once again. Bigham was up to bat and was also walked, bringing Voight home. Houlahan hit a single to left field batting in both Pangburn and Eldred for the sixth run of the game.
In the top of the fifth Voight hit a double to left field. Nick Mahar was then out on his way from home to first, and Voight advanced to third. Pangburn hit a single to left field bringing home Voight sending the golden eagles into the bottom of the fifth up 7-0.
Starting the seventh, Chris Martin walked. Jason Mansell then hit a single to left field, and Martin advanced to second. Nick Mahar was walked, making the bases loaded. Pastore hit a single to center field batting in both Martin and Mansell. Eldred then hit a double down the right field foul line bringing Mahar home and helping Pastore advance to third.
Russel sage scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the top of the ninth inning Nick Ianniello hit a double to left field. Pangburn was walked, putting men on both first and second. Nicholas Pastore was up to bat and hit the Golden Eagles second home run of the game bringing home himself, the pinch runner Josh Indek and Pangburn, sending the Golden Eagles into the final inning up 13-2.
The Gators scored their final runs of the game in the bottom of the ninth, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
Brockport will be on the road this weekend for another 3-game SUNYAC series, against the Fredonia Blue Devils. The Golden Eagles will play one game Friday at 3pm and the other two on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon.
