Sides, Walker lead Lyons past Northstar Christian

JC Walker scored seven of his 19 points in the third quarter when the Lyons boys’ basketball team pulled away from a single-digit game and went on to beat Northstar Christian, 82-71 in Class C sub-regional action Tuesday night from Marcus Whitman High School.

Leading 38-31 heading into the frame, Walker connected three times from the floor and added a free throw as the Lions took a 61-46 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play. Teammate Jaiden Lopez added a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the quarter. Lopez finished the night with 15 points.

Jacob Sides scored 11 of his 17 points in the second quarter to help Lyons to a 38-31 lead at halftime.

Jamire Johnson added 14 points in the win. Steven LeBrecht had a triple and five points. Devyn Williams, Mikey Briggs and Dez Bell contributed four points apiece.

Lyons (24-1) advanced to the regional qualifier where it will face Pembroke. That game is scheduled for Thursday at Avon High School.

Justin Robinson connected four times from distance to help pace a Northstar Christian (16-10) long-range attack that saw the Knights finish with 12 3-pointers. The ninth-grade guard matched Walker with a game-high 19 points, including five in the first quarter when Northstar grabbed an 18-17 lead. Teammate Gavin Jones scored seven of his 17 points points in the opening stanza.

Andrew Eschner had 13 points with three 3-pointers. Eighth-grader Jacob Rybcznski drained four 3-pointers and accounted for 12 points. David Eschner went 4-for-5 from the free throw line, connected beyond the arc and had nine points . Lorenzo Danesi hit one free throw.
