One team is looking for back-to-back appearances in the state tournament. The other is looking to make its first appearance in program history. Waterloo and Hornell will match up for a spot in the NYS Class B Far West Regional. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Waterloo defeated No. 8 North Rose-Wolcott/Sodus, 76-13 in the quarterfinals before knocking off No. 5 Midlakes, 85-43 in the semifinals. The Tigers then beat No. 2 seed Palmyra-Macedon, 65-47 to win the Class B1 title. Hornell downed No. 6 Le Roy, 70-40 in the quarterfinals and knocked off No. 2 Mynderse, 61-56 in the semifinals. Hornell defeated No. 1 seed Dansville, 54-47 to win the Class B2 title.

History 101: Waterloo, a state finalist a year ago, brings a record of 80 win and 5 losses over the past four seasons into Tuesday’s tilt. They Tigers also reached the 2013 NYSPHSAA Girls’ Class B championship game before falling to top-seeded Irvington. Hornell won its first sectional title on Saturday and is looking for its first state tournament appearance in its history.
What’s Next: Winner advances to the NYS Class B Far West Regional on Saturday to play the Section VI representative either Eden or Depew.
A 6:00 p.m. tip-off is scheduled at Penn Yan Academy.
