
One team is looking for its fourth consecutive sectional title. The other is looking to win its fourth in the past six years. Avon and Northstar Christian will meet when the 2023 Section V Class C1 Boys’ Basketball Championship tips off on Sunday. Here’s the breakdown:

Current streak: Avon has won seven of its past eight games. Northstar Christian has won five straight games.
How they arrived here: Avon defeated No. 7 Sodus, 62-33, in the quarterfinals then took down No. 3 Geneseo, 61-55, in the semis. Northstar Christian beat No. 12 Holley, 89-45, before defeating No. 4 East Rochester by a score of 50-43 in the quarterfinals and then overcoming top-seeded Rochester Academy, 71-61, in the semifinals.

History 101: This is the third straight C1 final appearance for Avon and fourth overall for the Braves who defeated Wayland-Cohocton for the 2020 Class B2 title. Avon is looking to win its 10th title in program history. Avon defeated Rochester Academy in 2022 and Marcus Whitman in 2021 for their previous two championships. Northstar Christian took down Pembroke in 2018 for its second straight C1 title and Mynderse for the 2021 Class B2 championship. The Knights have six sectional titles in program history.
What’s next: The winner will advance to regional qualifier action.
A 3 p.m. tip off is scheduled at Blue Cross Arena.
