WEBSTER, N.Y. — Zee Johnson and Khorie Reaves scored 23 and 22 points respectively as No. 1 Greece Athena used a 15-0 run spanning the first and second quarters to gain separation from No. 4 Brockport on the way to an 81-56 victory in Section V Class A1 action, Wednesday night.
The first quarter was back and forth with six lead changes as Brockport gained a 12-11 advantage behind five points apiece from Drew Wilson and Kaeden Laureano.
At that point, Athena’s pressure defense started paying dividends. I’Zayah Reaves kick started the run with a triple and the run ended with a one-handed dunk in traffic by Johnson to give the Trojans a 14 -point lead. Brockport put together a 9-3 run near the end of the first half to get back within single digits but Athena (18-4) answered with the last seven points in the quarter, five by Johnson to go to intermission up 43-27.

The teams traded baskets in the third quarter until Athena erupted for a quarter closing 13-0 run to take a 65-34 lead and cruised to the victory from there. Five different scorers contributed to this run including triples from Bryon Williams and Javon Barfield and an old fashioned three-point play by Johnson. On the night, the Trojans hit eight shots from beyond the arc while Brockport converted on six triples.
I’Zayah Reaves added 11 points for Athena. I’Zick Reaves had nine. Javon Barfield (3), Connor Osier (3), Bryon Williams (3), Dominic LaMar (2), Roger Webb (2), Zayden Walker (2) and Rocco Prota (1) rounded out the scoring for the Trojans.
Laureano led Brockport (12-10) with 14 points. Francis Nwokonko had 11 and Wilson 10 points. Owen Cummings and Justin Sillen had four each, Jayden Hall and Tyler Judd both contributed three. Greg Rightmyer (2), Azay Odey (2), Dan Dailey (1), Cooper Harvey (1) and Xavier Bauer (1) also scored for the Blue Devils.
Athena will face No. 2 Irondequoit in Saturday’s final. The teams have met three times this season with Athena taking two of those decisions.
