Heath reaches career milestone, propels Irondequoit to A1 final

WEBSTER, N.Y. — Ryan Heath scored a game-high 21 points and reached a career milestone as No. 2 Irondequoit pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat No. 3 Webster Thomas, 67-52 in the Section V Class A1 semifinals action, Wednesday night.

The win sets up the fourth meeting of the season between Irondequoit and top-seeded Greece Athena when the Monroe County Division III foes meet in Saturday’s championship game.

Heath scored back-to-back buckets to begin the fourth quarter, the first of which was the 1,000th of his career, to give Irondequoit a 10-point advantage – its largest lead of the game up to that point. The Eagles later followed with an 8-0 spurt to open a 15 -point lead that proved to be insurmountable.  Heath added six more points during this stretch.

The second half started with four lead changes until Irondequoit put together an 8-0 run to take a seven-point lead.  Xavier Gissendanner started the run with a triple followed by two buckets in the paint by Isaiah Ballard.  Heath also contributed a free throw.  Irondequoit had a 43-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  

Thomas scored the first five points of the game, two from Sean Linder and a triple by Jackson Mulcahy.  Irondequoit (18-4) responded with the next eight, four by Heath.  The Titans continued to find success beyond the arc with Mulcahy and Shawn Mason each hitting a triple to lead the Titans to a 15-12 lead after one. 

Mulcahy finished the game with two three-pointers while Mason had five as part of his team-high 18 points.  The entire second quarter was played within one possession as the lead changed hands six times. Kenyen Lovett and Xavier Gissendanner scored back-to-back buckets to go into the break with a 27-26 edge.

Gissendanner ended the game with 15 points for Irondequoit while Ballard (10), Quinn Vankerkhove (9), Azavier Ross (6), Lovett (4) and Aiden Greco (2) also contributed to the scoring. 

Mulcahy finished with 13 points for Thomas (15-7). Cory Jarvis (6), Levi Kulik (6, Linder (5) and Shane Talbot (4) also scored for the Titans.
