Gibbs, Harrington, McClinic and Nwokonko nab weekly Monroe County honors

Jason Gibbs helped Churchville-Chili stay unbeaten on the season. Caden Harrington led Penfield to a key divisional win. Batavia’s Cam McClinic was perfect from the free throw line, and Brockport’s Francis Nwokonko shot 65 percent from the floor over three contests. The four were named player of the week (December 12th-18th) for their respective divisions as announced by Monroe County coaches.

Gibbs finished with 27 points, five assists and four rebounds in Churchville’s lone game to earn Monroe County Division II Player of the Week (POTW). The senior guard scored nine points in the fourth quarter as the Saints erased a two-point deficit to beat Canandaigua, 62-59 and improve to 3-0. Gibbs is averaging 22.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 93 percent from the free throw line this season.

Harrington finished with a team-high 17 points as Penfield (2-2) won for the second time in three games and handed Brighton (4-1) its first setback of the season. The senior guard connected twice from behind the 3-point arc and hit 7-of-11 from the floor for the game to earn Division I POTW. Harrington grabbed six rebounds and handed out five assists in the win while committing two turnovers. For the season, he has 15 dimes with six ballhandling miscues.

McClinic converted on all 12 free throws attempt in the Blue Devils win over Eastridge. In a game decided by three points, the senior guard hit eight times in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. McClinic finished with 16 points in the contest and nabbed Division IV Player of the Week.

Nwokonko connected on 24-of-37 attempts from the floor over three games last week. The senior guard averaged 18.3 points and 6.0 to earn Monroe County Division III POTW. Nwokonko converted on 7-of-11 free three throws and slammed home nine dunks during the week.
