SPENCERPORT, N.Y.– Despite the rainy and slippery conditions, Megan Fry recorded a shutout for the Webster Schroeder girls’ soccer team to send the Warriors to their first Class AA sectional finals since 2019 with a 2-0 victory Wednesday evening.

“Megan Fry has been fabulous all year,” Webster Schroeder’s head coach Kent Brown said of his goalkeeper. “She has been our energy. She has been our team leader. She’s built a tremendous environment on the team where the kids know that Meg’s got their back if they make a mistake, and it allows us to defend a little more aggressively.

“Double A is really hard to get through because all the teams are relatively pretty close. We haven’t been there since 19. We’re pretty excited to be going back and we beat a pretty good offense that scored a lot of goals this year.”

The Warriors scored two first-half goals as their lone tallies of the contest. Alyssa Doody got the Warriors on the board in the 19th minute after she put home a rebound.

“Alyssa Doody the last four weeks has been tremendous,” Brown stated about Doody’s performance. “She’s got pace, she gets into spaces. She scored against RH [Rush-Henerietta] last week.”

Abigail Herbst extended her team’s lead in the 31st minute after a corner kick landed in a scrum in the box and Herbst was able to find it and put it home.

The Warriors’ defense helped Fry in her shutout effort by limiting the number of shots Fry saw on Wednesday.

“One of the things we always talk about is building an environment and as we went through the last five, six weeks, our environment has really come to life between the players on the sideline and the players on the field,” Brown said. “We are all on the same page. They are a neat group to coach and it’s one of those special groups that come through because they’re so close.”

The Warriors will take on Hilton in the sectional finals on Saturday, October 29.
