Jacob Sevene and Andrew O’Neill each had two goals in McQuaid’s shutout win in the sectional quarterfinals. Also scoring for the Knights were Casey Montesano, Marco Pilato and Collin Peale. Sevene and Trey Leo had two assists apiece. McQuaid will square off against fourth-seeded Hilton at 5 p.m. Thursday in the sectional semifinals.

Josh Gleason wanted to change his squad’s pre-game routine. With the Aquinas boys’ soccer team prepared to open sectionals Saturday evening, the Li’l Irish head coach decided to revisit an old custom. Early returns suggest the gesture paid dividends. Alfonso Vito found the back of the net twice while Bennett Valentino and Ali Shabani both added to the scoresheet as No. 7 Aquinas advanced to the 2022 Section V Class A quarterfinals. READ MORE.

Ryan Meides’s game-winning goal propelled Attica/Alexander to victory in the sectional quarterfinals. Jon Beck made it 1-0 Attica/Alexander, then Greece Odyssey’s AJ Rebis knotted the score with 58 seconds left in regulation. Attica/Alexander will face second-seeded Livonia in the sectional semifinals.

Austin Francis finished with a goal and an assist for Livonia in the sectional quarterfinals. Connor Feehan, Evan Frazo and George Christian tallied a goal apiece for the Bulldogs. Livonia goes up against third-seeded Attica/Alexander in the sectional semifinal round.

Jack Emo and Wyatt Evingham each scored two goals for Hornell in the sectional quarterfinals. PJ Picco chipped in a goal and two assists for the Red Raiders. DeMayne Dixon, Shawn Rose, Gates Miller and Liam Khork also scored for the Red Raiders. Khork, Rose, Jacob Ponticello and Mason Terwiller each accounted for an assist. Hornell faces fourth-seeded Greece Olympia in the sectional semifinal round.

No. 1 BISHOP KEARNEY/CHESTERTON ACADEMY (14-1-1) 4
For the fourth time in as many years, Bishop Kearney and Haverling squared off in the Section V Class B2 Boys’ playoffs. The previous three meetings went to Haverling. On Saturday afternoon, Kearney turned the tables. Joey Triassi scored twice while Jaiden Insixiengmay and Christian Maniscalco added a tally apiece as top-seeded Kearney advanced to the 2022 Class B2 semifinals. READ MORE.

Carson Nagpaul’s goal in the second half was all Penn Yan needed to ride to victory in the sectional quarterfinals. Landon Berry provided an assist for the Mustangs. Thomas Barden made 10 saves for the shutout. Penn Yan moves on to face third-seeded North Rose-Wolcott in the sectional semis.

Owen Morrison’s goal and an assist anchored Le Roy’s attack on offense in the sectional quarterfinals. Also for the Oatkan Knights, Maveric McKenzie tallied a goal. Le Roy’s next opponent is top-seeded Bishop Kearney/Chesterton Academy in the sectional semifinals.

North Rose-Wolcott’s Alex Hernandez tied it at 3-3 on his goal with four minutes left in regulation. Hernandez then won it for the Cougars in overtime in the sectional quarterfinals. Hernandez also had two assists. Also for the Cougars, Gilbert Seager and Nicholas Gilbert each had goals. For Dansville, Tyler Harris notched two goals, and Ryan Burley chipped in a goal and an assist. NRW faces second-seeded Penn Yan in the sectional semifinal round.

James Hy’s goal and an assist guided Geneseo to the sectional quarterfinals victory. Kellen O’Brien also netted a goal for the Blue Devils. Geneseo will be pitted against top-seeded Avon in the sectional semis.

Lee Hartke notched a hat trick in Avon’s win in the sectional quarterfinal round. Austin Lattuca provided two goals and two assists, while Dominic Patti and Ethan Campbell also scored. Brody McDowell added two assists for the Braves. Avon gets fifth-seeded Geneseo in the sectional semifinals.

Aidan Miller netted the game-winner in overtime for Marion in the sectional quarterfinals. Also for the Black Knights, Liam Phelps had a goal and an assist, while Austin VanDeWalle contributed a goal. Miguel Candela scored both goals for Dundee-Bradford. Marion takes on top-seeded Red Creek in the sectional semifinals.

Nick Zwerka, Gianni Ferrara and Colin Rhea each recorded a goal in Byron Bergen/Elba’s sectional quarterfinal victory. Braedyn Chambry notched two assists. Byron-Bergen/Elba takes on third-seeded Bolivar-Richburg in the sectional semifinals.

Four different players scored for Bolivar-Richburg in its win in the sectional quarterfinals, including Braden Zilker, Ian Unfus, Daniel Baldwin and Ryder Easton. Aydin Sisson and Reiss Gaines each had two assists. Bolivar-Richburg takes on second-seeded Byron-Bergen/Elba in the sectional semifinals.

Lorenzo Danesi recorded two goals and two assists for Northstar Christian in the sectional quarterfinals. Johnny Daby added two goals for the Knights. Sam Boguta, Felipe Nogueira Lopes Cruz and Kyle Torrey also scored for Northstar. Justin Robinson, Noah Sluk, Christian Mazur and David Eschner contributed an assist apiece. Northstar Christian moves on to face second-seeded Houghton in the sectional semifinals.
