Rochester rallied in the ninth inning down 2-0 with five runs to take the series finale 5-2 against the Indianapolis Indians Sunday afternoon.
Taylor Gushue got the rally started with a groundout with bases loaded. Adrian Sanchez two batters later broke the inning open, driving in three runs with a double. The double was his 14th of the year. Andrew Stevenson finished off the five-run final frame with an RBI base hit.
Both Gushue and Stevenson extended their on-base streaks. Gushue extended his to nine games while Stevenson extended his to 15.
Jordan Weems picked up the win by setting down the Indians one, two, three in the bottom half of the inning to seal the victory for the Wings. Weems pitched the inning prior, only giving up one hit and striking out one.
Indianapolis opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double from Diego Catillo. They added to the lead in the fifth with a Ji-hwan Bae RBI double.
Daniel Ponce de Leon got the start for Rochester on Sunday. The right-hander threw six innings of two-run baseball. During his start, he struck out seven batters while giving up five hits and walking one Indian. Reed Garrett came into the game in relief and the seventh inning. He pitched only one inning walking one batter and striking out the other three batters he faced. Garrett also extended his no earned run streak to 11 games with his shutout one-inning relief appearance Sunday.
The win on Sunday ended a three-game slide the Wings had against the Indians during the series.
Rochester returns to action on Tuesday as they head back home after its two-week road trip to take on the Toledo Mud Hens. First pitch is slotted for 7:05 Tuesday evening.
