Webster Thomas and Hamburg (VI) on collision course to Class A Far West Regional

The Webster Thomas Titans and Hamburg Bulldogs (VI) will compete for a spot in the NYS Class A semi-finals when the two teams meet in the 2022 Far West Regional on Saturday. Here’s the breakdown:

CLASS A
WEBSTER THOMAS TITANS (13-11/MONROE COUNTY)
vs.

HAMBURG BULLDOGS (16-6/ECIC)
Saturday, June 4th 12:00 PM at Grand Island High School

How they arrived here: Webster Thomas defeated Canandaigua, Churchville-Chili, Webster Schroeder and Pittsford Sutherland on its way to regionals. Hamburg beat Sweet Home, Williamsville East, Niagara-Wheatfield, and Iroquois to earn a spot in regionals. 

Tempo and Trends: Webster Thomas scores seven runs and allows other teams 5.5 runs a contest. Hamburg posts nearly eight runs on offense and gives up four runs a game on defense. Hamburg has won four straight games and eight of nine entering Saturday’s action. 

What’s at stake: A spot in the Class A NYS semi-finals against the winner of Calhoun (VIII) and Rocky Point (XI).

History 101: This is the first time Webster Thomas has made it to regionals since 2005 when the Titans lost in the NYS semi-finals to Sachem East in nine innings 3-2. Thomas defeated Orchard Park, 5-2 in the 2005 Far West Regional. 

Section V teams have a record of 3 wins and 2 losses in the past five Class A Far West Regionals. Canandaigua won in 2018 and 2019 while Pittsford Sutherland won the 2107 game. Hamburg last reached the state quarterfinals in 2015 when the Bulldogs beat Honeoye Falls-Lima, 7-3.
