The SUNY Geneseo Softball team ended its regular season with a pair of extra-inning victories, defeating host Oswego, 8-7, in game one and 6-5 in game two.
GAME ONE – GENESEO 8, Oswego 7 (9 Innings)
- The Knights opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Audrey Minton drove in Leah VanDerwarker with an RBI single. Oswego tied the game in the bottom of the inning and took the lead in the third with a six run inning.
- Trailing 7-1, the Knights chipped away at the lead. VanDerwarker hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth before first-year Kaitlyn Schmitz hit a solo home run in the fifth. In the sixth, the Knights scored once on an error and added a run on a single from Rebecca Schwartz.
- The Knights trailed, 7-5, entering the seventh, but Lauren Kersch lifted an RBI double to left before Katherine Hayes drove in the tying run to force extra innings.
- In the ninth, VanDerwarker hit a double to drive in Phoebe Elardo for the go-ahead run. Elizabeth Eberhardt shut down the Oswego bats in the ninth to earn the victory.
GAME TWO – GENESEO 6, Oswego 5 (8 Innings)
- Hayes and Schmitz each drove in a run and Samantha Martz added a pair of RBI as the Knights entered the seventh with 4-0 lead. Oswego plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh, scoring all four with two outs, to extend the game.
- In the top of the eighth, Olivia Fazio led off with a single and came around to score two batters later when Hayes drove her in to give the Knights a 5-4 lead. The Knights took advantage of an Oswego error and Schwartz drove in another run to make it 6-4.
- In the bottom of the inning, Oswego scored one run and put the tying run on first base, but Elizabeth Eberhardt shut down the Lakers’ comeback efforts to earn the win.
QUICK FACTS
- The Knights finished the regular season with a 30-4 record, the best regular season record since 2002 when the team finished 36-5 overall.
- Rebecca Schwartz finished with a team-high five hits across the two games combined while Martz tallied four.
- Elizabeth Eberhardt earned pitching victories in both games, tossing a total of 4.1 innings of relief and allowing just one earned run in the two games combined.

The Knights (30-4, 16-2 SUNYAC) will host the SUNYAC Tournament as the top seed, beginning on Thursday, May 5 at 9:00 a.m.
