Preston Prince, Phil Nwugwo, Jason Gibbs, Andrew Quinn, Jackson Green, and Caquan Wester each received top honors in their respective Monroe County divisions for the 2022 season. Green and Pittsford Mendon captured the Class A1 crown. Prince led all scorers in Section V. Nwugwo had his Blue Devils finish with the top seed in Class AA. Wester paced Eastridge to the top seed in Class A2 while Gibbs set a program mark and Quinn led Webster Thomas to Division II title.
Prince and Nwugwo shared Player of the Year honors for Monroe County Division I.
Prince paced Hilton to a record of 13-9, and led the Cadets to the Class AA semifinals. The forward finished the season averaging 26.6 PPG to go along with 12.5 RPG. He added 2.4 APG and 1.7 SPG. Prince wrapped up his final season with 15 double-doubles.

The 6-foot-4 forward/guard set the Hilton single-season rebounding total with 276 and finished with the second-highest single-season scoring total of 586 points. At one point in the season, Preston scored 20-plus points in eight consecutive games. A Niagara University commit for baseball, Prince finished his high school basketball career with career-highs of 38 points and 22 rebounds.
Nwugwo led all scorers on Victor en route to a 19-1 regular season record. The senior averaged 19.7 PPG and 9.9 RPG on 68-percent shooting from the field. Nwugwo finished the year with nine double-doubles. The forward ended his outstanding career as the Victor blocks leader, 76, and career wins leader, 56. Nwugwo’s best game came against Hilton, where the senior scored 25 points and corralled 19 rebounds.
Teammate Nick Leonard joined Nwugwo on the Division I First Team. Leonard finished the season averaging 10.3 points per game alongside 5.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists. The sophomore recorded one double-double on the year, and had his best game against Brighton where he put up 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
Rush-Henrietta’s Tobey Wright also earned a spot on the First Team. Wright ended his season averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 2.0 APG. The senior made 46 three-pointers on the season, and shot 37-percent from beyond the arc. Wright had a season-high 32 points against Edison.
Aiden Cook earned First-Team honors for Penfield. The junior averaged a team-high 17.4 points per game. The six-foot-two-inch guard totaled over 25 points in six games. Cook hit five or more three-pointers in six different games this season.
Webster Schroeder’s Ben Carey rounded out the Monroe County Division I First Team. Carey averaged 13.8 PPG, 4.7 APG, 4.3 RPG, and 2.2 SPG. The senior raised his game in the postseason and averaged 19 points per contest in sectionals. The guard finished the season with four 20-plus point games, and had a season-high of 25. Carey knocked down a game-winner against Pittsford Sutherland, and hit a game-tying three against Rush-Henrietta to push that game into overtime.
Cam Ryan (Victor), Alex DeRosa (Webster Schroeder), Zac Ditzel (Fairport ), Greyson Trubia (Hilton), Mason Giorgione (Rush-Henrietta), and Brady Schroeder (Penfield) all earned Division I Second-Team honors.
Gibbs and Quinn were named Co-Player of the Year for Monroe County Division II.
Gibbs represented Churchville-Chili Saint on the First Team. The 5-foot-10 guard scored 20 or more points in 17 games and averaged a staggering 23.1 points per game on 43-percent shooting. The junior also finished with 5.7 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. Gibbs broke the single-season program record for Churchville-Chili finishing with 519 points on the season.
The Saint earned Player of the Week twice for Monroe County Division II. His season-high came against Brighton where Gibbs scored 34 points alongside eight assists and five rebounds.
Quinn paced Webster Thomas to a 15-4 record and the Class A1 sectional semifinals. The senior scored a team-high 17.7 points per game on 56-percent shooting from the field and 53-percent shooting from deep. The six-foot-two-inch forward/guard added 4.9 RPG, 1.5 APG, and 1.2 SPG. Quinn’s season-high came against Churchville-Chili when he had 27 points.
Jackson Kulik joined his teammate Quinn on the Monroe County Division II First Team. The six-foot-six-inch forward averaged 15.5 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game. Kulik shot 46-percent from the field, and added 2.5 dishes per game. The senior’s best game came against Brighton when he poured in 29 points. Kulik also finished with four double-doubles on the season.
Irondequoit teammates Ryan Heath and Xavier Gissendanner nabbed First-Team honors. Heath led the Eagles in scoring with 17.8 points per game while shooting 47.0 percent from the field. Heath stuffed the stat sheet with 6.5 RPG and 5.5 APG to his line. The junior collected two double-doubles, and racked up the Most Valuable Player award at the Hilton Holiday Tournament. Gissendanner wrapped up his season with averages consisting of 16.2 PPG, 7.9 RPG, and 1.3 BPG. The junior shot 44.0 percent from the field, and corralled eight double-doubles on the season. Gissendanner netted his season-high 25 points against both Fairport and Greece Athena this season.
Reggie Smith Jr. closed out the Monroe County Division II First-Team. As a sophomore, Smith Jr. averaged a double-double featuring 16.0 PPG and 10.0 RPG. Smith Jr. also added two assists and two blocks every night. The six-foot-five-inch forward/guard led Brighton to a 13-8 record this season, and put up a career-high 28 points against Eastridge.
Shawn Mason (Webster Thomas), Eli Desandis (Brighton), Andrew Falter (Brighton), Bryon Streb (Spencerport), Robert Munding (Churchville), and Ryan Santiago (Gates-Chili) all garnered Monroe County Division II Second-Team honors.
Green earned the Division III Monroe County Player of the Year award. Green paced Pittsford Mendon to a 19-1 regular-season mark before capturing the Class A1 sectional title and advancing to the NYS Far West Regionals. The 6-foot-three-inch junior guard averaged a team-high 17.5 points per game on 49-percent shooting. He added 7.2 rebounds per game and 5.2 assists per game and finished with seven doubled-doubles Green scored a season-high 24 points on four separate occasions.
Teammate Caleb Lewis also earned First-Team honors for the Vikings. The junior ended the season averaging 16.1 points per game to go along with 8.1 rebounds per game, and 3.8 assists per game. Lewis shot 53.0 percent from the field, and recorded 10 double-doubles on the year. The six-foot-two-inch guard had a season-high of 31 points.
James Reaves Jr. represented Greece Athena on the First-Team. The senior scored 354 points on the season (17.0 points per game). Reaves shot 41.0 percent from the field, and 73.4 percent from the charity stripe. The six-foot-two-inch guard added four rebounds, two assists, and two steals on a nightly basis. He passed the 20-point mark seven times and earned Player of the Week for Monroe County Division III once.
Canandaigua’s Bryce Ceravolo and Pittsford Sutherland’s Sam Pisanelli rounded out the Division III First Team.
Ceravolo paced Canandaigua with a team-high 15.3 points per game behind 47.0 percent shooting. The 6-foot senior led the Braves to a 15-6 record with four assists and 6.4 rebounds per game. He also averaged 1.9 steals and 2.1 deflections per game.
Pisanelli ended his junior season averaging 18.7 points per contest. The shooting guard collected in six rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. The 6-foot guard was consistent from deep, shooting 40-percent from three. Pisanelli poured in 29 points against Greece Athena and Eastridge on back-to-back nights, and recorded three double-doubles on the season.
Derek Andrews (Canandaigua), Nick Ferris (Canandaigua), Kidder Lindley (Pittsford Mendon), Izaiah Stewart (Greece Athena), and Khorie Reaves (Greece Athena) were all named to the Monroe County Division III Second Team.
Wester nabbed Monroe County Division IV Player of the Year honors for Eastridge. The Lancers finished with a 19-3 record thanks to the senior’s 19.5 points per game on 57-percent shooting from the field and 47-percent shooting from three. The 6-foot-7-inch forward/guard collected 11.2 rebounds while collecting 2.4 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. He finished his season with 14 double-doubles and ended his career with highs of 36 points and 18 rebounds.
Teammate Emmanuel Leftenant joined Wester to form one of three pairs on the Monroe County Division IV First Team. Leftenant earned Player of the Week when he averaged 14 points and seven assists over three Eastridge wins. The 5-foot-10 guard also scored 16 points when the Lancers outlasted Olympia in overtime.
Nolan Smith and JT Killenbec joined the First Team from Honeoye Falls-Lima. Smith scored 389 points (18.5 points per game). The 6-foot-6 junior forward corralled 193 rebounds, recorded 50 assists, swatted 40 shots and totaled 27 steals. He had 14 double-doubles, and scored in double-figures 17 times. Smith scored his career-high twice this season, 31, against Monroe and Pittsford Sutherland.
Killenbec set an HF-L single-season program record with 130 assists (6.2 dimes per game). The senior also added 13.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Killenbec recorded one triple-double on the season and finished in double-figures 14 times. His career-high came against NE Douglass in the championship of the Cougar Classic when he finished with 26 points.
Anthony Starks and Jahod Faison completed the Monroe County Division IV First Team for Greece Olympia. Starks led the charge for the Spartans by averaging a double-double. The senior netted 16.7 points per game, and collected 12.7 rebounds on a nightly basis. The six-foot-five-inch forward sent back 2.18 shots a game, and tallied 1.3 steals per game. Starks ended his season with 14 double-doubles and one triple-double. His career-high came against Early College on senior night where he ended with 27 points.
Faison ended his year averaging 14.0 PPG, 4.0 APG, 4.7 RPG, and 2.0 SPG. The five-foot-nine-inch guard shot 42-percent from the field, and had his career-high, 26 points, against Greece Arcadia.
