Livingston County Athletic Association meets Genesee Region meets for a spot in Saturday’s New York State Boys’ Class C Far West Regional. Section V Class C1 champion Avon will face C2 champ Oakfield–Alabama for the right to play Salamanca of Section VI. Here’s the breakdown:
AVON BRAVES (21-3/Livingston County II) vs. OAKFIELD–ALABAMA HORNETS (22-1/ Genesse County I)
Scoring Offense: Avon (58.5 PPG), Oakfield-Alabama (68.7 PPG)
Scoring Defense: Avon (44.8 PAPG), Oakfield-Alabama (42.8 PAPG)
Current Streak: Avon brings eight consecutive wins into Wednesday’s tilt. The Braves have won 16 of their past 17 games. Oakfield-Alabama has won five in a row.
How they arrived here: Avon defeated No. 7 Letchworth 54-39 in the C1 quarterfinals and Geneseo, 49-35 in the semifinals. The Braves claimed their third straight sectional title with a 68-43 victory over top-seeded and previously unbeaten, Rochester Academy Charter School before downing York, 58-48 in the Class C sub-regional. For Oakfield-Alabama, the Hornets won a first-round game against No. 10 seed Kendall, 82-40, and were able to defeat No. 3 seed, Pembroke, in the semifinals 61-31 before claiming the C@ title with a 55-29 win over Lyons.
