Wayne County faces Livingston County Athletic Association for a spot in New York State’s Class C Girls’ Far West Regional. Section V Class C1 champion East Rochester squares off with C2 champ Pavilion to clinch a berth in this weekend’s state quarter-finals. Here’s the breakdown:
EAST ROCHESTER BOMBERS (22-1/Wayne County) vs. PAVILION GOLDEN GOPHERS (19-2/Livingston County III)
Scoring Offense: East Rochester (68.1 PPG), Pavilion (52.5 PPG)
Scoring Defense: East Rochester (35.4 PAPG), Pavilion (33.8 PAPG)
Current Streak: East Rochester has won four straight; Pavilion has won five in a row.
How they arrived here: East Rochester started off sectional play with an 81-19 win over No. 9 seed Rochester Academy. The Bombers followed it up with a semifinal win over No. 5 seed Geneseo, 53-35. East Rochester then defeated Alexander, 61-37 for its second straight C1 title.

Pavilion won in the quarterfinal round against No. 8 seed Warsaw, 46- 23. The Golden Gophers then beat No.4 seed Kendall, 44-40 in the semifinals and Gananda, 46-42 in the sectional final. Pavilion downed York, 40-28 in the Class C sub-regional.

History 101: East Rochester won last year’s C1 title, ending a 29-year drought. Pavilion won the 2020 Class D1 title.
What’s at stake: A spot in Saturday’s Far West Regional against either Portville or Frewsburg of Section VI.
A 6 p.m. tipoff is scheduled Wednesday at Bloomfield High School.
