Section V Playoff Preview: Girls’ Basketball Class D1

The Class D1 girls’ bracket features three Finger Lakes West teams along with two apiece from Allegany County and the Genesee Region as well as one each from the Private-Parochial League, Livingston County Athletic Association, Steuben County and Wayne County. The tournament opens with three first-round games on Tuesday. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed FILLMORE EAGLES (Allegany County I)
Record: 20-0
Coach: Tom Parks
Streak: Won eight of the past nine by double digits.
Finish last season: Lost in Class D1 semi-finals against South Seneca, 35-45
Opponent: Winner of Wheatland-Chili/Mount Morris, Friday at 7 p.m. at Fillmore High School

No. 2 seed BATAVIA-NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH (Genesee Region II)
Record: 15-5
Coach: Tom McCulley
Streak: Won three of four
Finish last season: Beat South Seneca, 55-48 to win Class D1 championship.
Opponent: Winner of Honeoye/Marion, Friday at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame High School

No. 3 seed GENESEE VALLEY/BELFAST JAGUARS (Allegany County II)
Record: 15-5
Coach: Jim Schneider
Streak: Won two of four
Finish last season: Did not qualify for sectionals
Opponent: Winner of South Seneca/Naples, Friday at 7 p.m. at Genesee Valley High School

No. 4 seed C. G. FINNEY FALCONS (Private-Parochial League Division II)

Finish last season: Lost to Notre Dame-Batavia, 50-67 in the Class D1 semi-finals.
